Arlington, Texas Gathering: Part 3—Why Am I Not Happy?

Do you ever ask yourself, “Why am I not happy?” In this audio, David works with a specific call for love during this session as an inroad to healing and inner peace. Using the Levels of Mind diagram, he uses the presenting problem as a starting point for going inward to the light of the Holy Spirit. Under all our seeming fears in this world, what we are really afraid of is the light. Other themes in this talk include family issues, the deep belief in sacrifice, and the two plans of forgiveness: the ego’s and the Holy Spirit’s.

Gold Nugget:

“Why would we have strain and resistance in answering the Holy Spirit’s Call? That’s an interesting thing. If this is the Call for eternal life, if this is the Call to joy, if this is the Call to happiness, if this is the Call that tells you God’s Will for you is perfect happiness, why would we resist? In twelve-step terms we’re addicted to the ‘stinking thinking.’ If you talk to people who are in the twelve-step programs, they’ll say, ‘I first had to get in touch with my addiction to misery.’ It’s interesting when I listen to people doing the twelve steps that have had alcoholic addictions, drug addictions, sex addictions, all kinds of struggles. They’ll tell you, ‘I couldn’t even begin the healing process until I’d admitted I had a problem. And admitted that there was some kind of strange addiction to misery that was making me take that next drink, that was making me take that next joint, or that next hit.’ There’s some strange, twisted addiction to misery that has to be faced. And everyone has to face that addiction to misery. How can we hope to be healed from pain and suffering in the mind if we are still holding it close and protecting it, if we still feel we like that there is something safe about misery?

How could we ever heal from misery if we’re protecting the misery? To answer that Call we really have to be honest with ourselves about, where am I in my mind, where am I in my heart resisting the Call? There’s an actual terror at listening to the Voice for God. People on this planet have all kinds of beliefs; some of them believe in God, some of them are atheists, some of them are agnostic, some of them believe in pink pyramids; all kinds of things. Not a lot of people say they have conversations with Jesus; they are usually locked up. We are being called to accept true forgiveness, to go into innocence, to accept ourselves as the living Christ and to let go of the mask of persona that covers over that light. That’s what it’s going to entail.

Now let’s look a little bit at the fear, the fear of answering the Call, because it doesn’t necessarily seem logical. If this is a call back to eternal love, then it doesn’t seem logical to say no to it or to fight it. But the ego is terrified of that Call. There is no ego in eternity, so basically the ego is terrified of the Call because it’s out of business. And remember the ego itself is just a belief, so the ego is more concerned about the mind that believes in it. Because the ego is like a parasite, draining the mind of its creativity, its joy, its happiness. When you feel fatigue, you feel the ego’s fatigue. When you’re tired, you feel the ego’s sense of tiredness. Spirit isn’t tired. Spirit is eternally loving and joyful and vibrant. So when you even consider answering that Call, the ego is going to go from suspicious to vicious; it’s going to throw everything including the kitchen sink to say, ‘Think twice before you make that move.’ Why? Because the ego’s threatened. If you start listening and following those guidances, the ego feels like it’s days are numbered, and that’s true. If you start following the voice of the Holy Spirit, the ego’s days are not only numbered, they are severely numbered. They are shortened by an amazing amount of time; that’s what miracles do: They collapse time; they bring the Alpha and the Omega back together. They show you that I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Really, love has no start or stop; it’s just eternal…”

I Taught the World to Teach Me

I Taught the World to Teach Me – In this session, David Hoffmeister emphasizes the importance of loyalty to the Spirit, the inner teacher, over personal desires and external opinions. This loyalty stems from truth and a deep connection with the Holy Spirit, not the ego’s demands. David shares parables of taking full responsibility for our state of mind by recognizing that we taught the world to teach us. By keeping this empowering thought in mind, it’s possible to remember that we don’t need to wait for externals to choose to be happy.

Coming Together with the Purpose of Healing

Coming Together with the Purpose of Healing

Coming Together with the Purpose of Healing – David Hoffmeister explores the perceptual problem, which pertains to the belief that the subject and the object are different, that the observer is different from the observed, and that the personality-self is different from the world that surrounds it. When we see an issue in the world, it really is just a split in the mind. This belief can result in significant problems such as conflict, climate change, and hunger, all of which can be traced back to the division within the mind. “Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved,” (W-79) and “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.” W-80 By examining the projected world, we often fail to identify the core problem because it manifests in many forms. You may resolve a few problems today, only to encounter more tomorrow. Therefore, the key lies in our perspective, which stems from our interpretation.

Relax, Step Back, and Unwind from the World

Relax, Step Back, and Unwind from the World

Relax, Step Back, and Unwind from the World – David Hoffmeister shares about the importance of placing the future in God’s hands, a concept that requires enormous trust. This trust is crucial as we have been conditioned to learn the past and plan the future. Trust is the foundation of a teacher of God and allows us to relax and feel divine ease. During this profound talk, David also gives an overview of the very first Strawberry Fields Festival in 2009. Jesus tells us to go from nightmares to waking with a transition between happy dreams and gentle waking. This process helps us feel softer and gentler, making the struggle and challenge easier. Enjoy this deep discussion with the participants that goes deep and yet fun.

Opening to Deeper Prayer

Opening to Deeper Prayer

Opening to Deeper Prayer – David Hoffmeister begins this 4-day Japan retreat by exploring the concept of undoing the self-concept—a conditioned expectation that obstructs our understanding of the world. The ego arises from the mind’s pursuit of self-improvement, crafting illusory goals that keep the mind preoccupied and detached from its boundless nature. The ego’s game is endless, as it neither begins nor concludes. The purpose of our practice is to abandon the pursuit of temporal goals and relinquish the false identity—the mask of the ego. In doing so, we experience the mind’s all-encompassing nature, recognizing that the world, society, and everything once perceived as external are within the mind. As the mind reaches a state of rest, the external world reflects this peace, becoming more harmonious.

A Path of Gentle Letting Go

A Path of Gentle Letting Go

A Path of Gentle Letting Go – In this session, David Hoffmeister speaks about Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, focusing on self-actualization as the top goal. This concept is based on the Greek belief that ‘know thyself’ is the ultimate goal of human development. The ego attempts to deny this through hypnotism, mesmerism and imagination, covering the truth with unreal images. Atonement, the correction, is the awareness that the separation never happened.

Teaching the Holy Instant

Teaching the Holy Instant

Teaching the Holy Instant – At the beginning of this talk, David Hoffmeister discusses the concept of choice and the duality of life. We seem to live in a world of duality, where one of the primary goals is to find a life partner. We can see even that is dualistic because even a successful life match involves two, while reality involves only one.
