“I’m seeing that I have right now everything that I need for happiness. I don’t need the world to change to be happy. I just need to see the world with the Holy Spirit to find the happiness. And that’s why we always talk about mind training and devotion. It’s like taking the same energy that you would put into your career or to a partnership or raising children or raising your cat and putting all that energy into your present moment experience, into your prayer to know God. So it’s pulling your mind’s energy away from the ego and giving all of your mind’s energy to the Holy Spirit. I know in my experience this is what worked for me.
When people would say, ‘What will you do for your career?’ I would say, ‘I used to think about that a lot.’ ‘How will you spend your days when you grow older?’ ‘I used to think about that a little.’ ‘What will I do today?’ ‘I used to think about that too.’ But now it’s just leaving the mind blank and open and letting the Holy Spirit give the meaning, moment by moment. It takes away all the pressure. You’re not judging and comparing. Your eyes are not wandering, looking around at the world. You’re not even looking to follow something in form. You let your heart and your experiences show you the way. You don’t have to pledge allegiance to a person, or a country, or even to some kind of movement. You don’t even have to pledge your allegiance to A Course in Miracles. It’s just a book! Your heart and your happiness are what this is about, and as soon as you can really get in contact with your heart, then your work with the book is over, and the Holy Spirit will give you plenty to do once you do that!”
