“So as we start off this mystery school, off these different sessions, all of us have kind of gone through the keyhole of hearing that inner call, answering that inner call. And in the Bible, there are some words about the ‘chosen ones,’ which sometimes people think that refers to the Jews of the time or whatever. Jesus reinterprets the ‘chosen ones’ into ‘All are called but few choose to listen.’ T-3.IV.7:12 So you can see that universal quality, is again, taking it above the personal. The chosen ones, to all are called to awaken from the dream, and few choose to listen. And we can say, from a perspective, that they are just not ready. It’s all about readiness. That’s what really drew all of us together in this quantum way to all be here. Somewhere, some quality, deep inside, has said that we’re ready for this. We wouldn’t be here to go through this experience unless we were ready. And it’s still going to take willingness, but there has to be almost like a baseline of readiness, throughout, for all of us to come together in this way.
So there’s a baseline quality of readiness, and now it’s going to take willingness, and there will be decision points along the way as we go deeper, and coming into full acceptance of this calling, this inner calling. Jesus was known for ‘be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.’ (John 16:33) And also ‘I am calling you out of the world.’ He’s really saying, I’m calling you out of ego thinking. That’s all it really means. That doesn’t mean that it’s prescribing that you’ll live in a cave or become a monk or a nun or some kind of form function. It’s actually just calling you out of ego thinking, calling you out of the imposter self, to the real Self, to the higher Self. So we felt like this morning, we would open it up. This could be more of a question-and-answer session based on the thoughts and the things that are coming up into your consciousness here. And that’s just a little preamble by me.”

Opening to Deeper Prayer – David Hoffmeister begins this 4-day Japan retreat by exploring the concept of undoing the self-concept—a conditioned expectation that obstructs our understanding of the world. The ego arises from the mind’s pursuit of self-improvement, crafting illusory goals that keep the mind preoccupied and detached from its boundless nature. The ego’s game is endless, as it neither begins nor concludes. The purpose of our practice is to abandon the pursuit of temporal goals and relinquish the false identity—the mask of the ego. In doing so, we experience the mind’s all-encompassing nature, recognizing that the world, society, and everything once perceived as external are within the mind. As the mind reaches a state of rest, the external world reflects this peace, becoming more harmonious.
