“If you read deep enough into the Course, into the Text, Jesus will talk about this. He talks about the self-concept is a two-tier self-concept. There’s the face of innocence, which is the personality self. And he says, sometimes it’s wet with tears at the injustices of the world. You know, like that stallion with all those horses, but the reins are being pulled back on that particular black stallion, and the stallion’s rearing up, its front legs have gone up, because it’s not happy, it’s being held back in some way. And then he says underneath the face of innocence is a self-concept so dark that it cannot even be looked upon. That’s why the top tier, that’s why the personality self was made. So the mind wouldn’t have to go down and look at the bottom part. And he uses the phrase in there; he says this part is draped with sin. Draped with sin! This is what Jesus says about the bottom part.
He’s trying to give us a clue about how dark and how intense. It’s like that lava that’s underneath that volcano, that pool of lava, maybe a very thick pool of hot lava, maybe like 1600-degree lava, that would just incinerate anything that the world knows if it came in contact with the 1600-degree lava. That’s how volatile the unconscious mind is! And then, underneath this two-tier self-concept is the Christ, is this magnificent love and light that once the mind believed it separated, that’s where the self-concept came in. Because it believed it had guilt, it believed that it separated from God, which really couldn’t happen in reality. But it believed it did. And it brought on itself like a whole world, a whole cosmos, a whole memory set of all these false memories!”
