In your complete willingness to forget the things you think you need, Heaven can finally be remembered. True prayer is described by Jesus in The Song of Prayer as having many levels, like rungs on a ladder, which lead from the early forms of praying for specifics to more advanced forms of prayer. The highest form of prayer is what Jesus calls “true prayer,” which involves a total willingness to “forget the things you think you need.” S-1.I.4:1 For, “You have sought first the Kingdom of Heaven, and all else has indeed been given you.” S-1.I.3:6 Pray only to serve God’s Will.
Jesus knows the way to truth beyond the endless maze of roles, concepts, and beliefs that we have accumulated in this world. Transcending fear requires listening to and following guidance. David Hoffmeister shares how Jesus used the mechanism of travel to undo the belief in ego preferences and attachments, and thus to undo fear. Family roles and responsibilities are often a concern as we start to embark on the path back to truth. Jesus works with us gently to unwind the mind. David’s sharing on this topic is especially helpful for anyone who feels the confusion of responsibility to both family and the spiritual journey.
The illusion that you have any control over your actions lies at the core of your belief and desire for autonomy/separation from God. Feelings like “I have control issues” or “you have control issues” are really expressions of the one mistaken belief in separation, the illusion of control. Relief from suffering comes from an acceptance that the illusion of voluntary control was not created by God and is therefore impossible.
The real treasures of mind training within a community of focused mighty companions – This is all just appearing in your mind. There is nothing outside of you. Everything you are asking for is within you. Nothing is out of order. Nothing has ever been out of order. Everything is in Divine order.
In this radical episode David Hoffmeister extends the message that, if you judge the world or yourself, you are not seeing with unified perception. In this case, you need to admit that your mind and therefore, the world, is cracked! Feeling guilty comes from this perceptual problem of duality; the belief that there is an inner and outer. The purpose of the Workbook of A Course in Miracles is to train your mind to see that this is not so.
