Releasing Projection to Enter the Holy Instant
In this talk, David speaks about the topic of projection and addresses the basic cause and effect relationship in the mind. Love extends, and the ego projects. The process of forgiveness requires the exposure and release of the belief in external causation. And all magic involves a belief that form can be causative. In the end, spiritual awakening requires the release of all magical beliefs. When the level of fear is high, a mixture of magic and miracle may be helpful. Time and eternity can conflict until the belief in time is released.

“Eternity will never be found in the future or the past. All attempts at manifesting a better life and a better world are just defenses against the holy instant. All attempts to seek for future states of enlightenment are defenses against the holy instant. The split of those shadows in the mind have to be solved or have to be seen unreal in the mind. It makes no sense to just pronounce the world as an illusion, or maya, because the words are projections too, and the one that’s speaking the words, in form, is a projection as well! So what it comes down to is the only escape from projection, is to see that you would have nothing but the Love of God; you would have no other motive. That’s the meaning of Jesus’s teaching: Let ‘thine eye be single.’ Matthew 6:22 Let your desire be single for God. Let your prayer be single for God! Let your focus, your attention, be single for God. All the great mystics and sages, that’s what their message was. I can see some of them on the panel in the back of the room there. When we talk about friendships, recently, I remember something that Paramahansa Yogananda was saying, that friendships and relationships really will not serve you at all, unless they are devoted to the Lord. That’s a beautiful teaching right there. You don’t have friendships or relationships that are not devoted to the Lord. If there’s not a shared purpose, there’s nothing there! You have a relationship of shadow figures, which is darkness relating to darkness. There’s nothing there because the darkness isn’t there. So that’s why spiritual life and spiritual devotion to purpose is so important, because without that, there is simply a giving in, succumbing to the projection. And the projection, again, was made to keep you from knowing who you are. That’s why it was made. It wasn’t made for a positive purpose. It was made to keep you from knowing who you are.”
