Worcester, England: True Responsibility Part 3—How to Let Go of Judgment

How do we make this shift of mind from following the ego and aligning with all its judgments to having a clear Christ-like mind? The Holy Spirit’s practical, moment to moment guidance is the answer. Each time we follow the Spirit’s specific directions, it helps to wash away our separate sense of self, and our lives begin to take on an ease and a flow. You start to feel empowered and more and more like you are not in the world. Other themes in this talk include: Awakening and taking responsibility for our state of mind.

Gold Nugget:

“In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, ‘Judge not.’ (Matthew 7:1) One of the questions that often comes up is, How do I go from a judgmental mind into a pristine, clear, pure expression of light? How do I go from an addictive, judgmental mind into this pristine, pure state of mind that is the Christ? How do you go from darkness to light? The Holy Spirit is the bridge. The Holy Spirit will seem to take the form of a voice; not in eternity because there’s no voices in eternity. That’s the committee; when the ego meets in your mind, and you hear the committee meeting, and you go, Ohhh! It never agrees. The committee has got a lot of opinions going on in there, Well, be practical. Think of this and this, and on the pro side… but on the con side… The committee is never agreeing. But there are no committees in Heaven.

How do you go from judgment into a pristine state of spirit? You go there through the Holy Spirit. It’s like saying, I’m lost, but Holy Spirit, you are with me in my mind, and now you will take the form of giving me your judgments so that I can reach above to a state of pure non-judgment.

So what are the Holy Spirit’s judgments, if the judgments are the bridge from an addicted judging mind to Holy Spirit judgments to non-judgment? The Holy Spirit’s judgments are your guidance: Go here, go there, call so and so, write this down. That’s the specific guidance; the Holy Spirit taking specific form to reach the complicated ego mind to transcend judgment entirely.

So instead of just thinking that you should be still, you should be quiet, you should have a quiet mind; when you follow the Workbook Lessons, it is clearing the debris away so you can follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The only purpose of A Course in Miracles is to put you in touch with your internal teacher. That’s why in the Course it says, ‘This course is a beginning, not an end.’ W-Ep.1:1 So you don’t have to think, I’m going to be working with this course all my life. You can be thinking, I’m just going to work with this course until I’m in touch with my internal teacher, then I’ll go on with my next level of lessons. You are not tied to a book. You are actually going to use a book to become highly intuitive, to be highly in touch with your higher Self, and that’s when it gets quite enjoyable. Because a lot of the parables that Frances and I share are parables to inspire and bless, that are very practical, that still seem to do with dealing with the symbols of the world. If you are given a teaching function or a travel function, like we’ve been given, there are lots of experiences with people, organizations, venues, airlines, railways, and buses, and all kinds of things, that then can become inspiring parables that let you know that you can live a life of ease and flow even relating to the world, seemingly the world. But the more that you follow the guidance, the less you feel like you are in the world, more like you are dreaming it, like you are watching it, which is wonderful.

A lot of us have had experiences of a lucid dream, and isn’t a lucid dream a lot of fun? You may have a dragon or a monster in front of you, and you are just so happy because you know you are dreaming the monster, and you are not at the mercy of the monster. It’s very empowering. That’s the result of guidance. That’s the result of practicing the guidance.”

I Taught the World to Teach Me

I Taught the World to Teach Me – In this session, David Hoffmeister emphasizes the importance of loyalty to the Spirit, the inner teacher, over personal desires and external opinions. This loyalty stems from truth and a deep connection with the Holy Spirit, not the ego’s demands. David shares parables of taking full responsibility for our state of mind by recognizing that we taught the world to teach us. By keeping this empowering thought in mind, it’s possible to remember that we don’t need to wait for externals to choose to be happy.

Coming Together with the Purpose of Healing

Coming Together with the Purpose of Healing

Coming Together with the Purpose of Healing – David Hoffmeister explores the perceptual problem, which pertains to the belief that the subject and the object are different, that the observer is different from the observed, and that the personality-self is different from the world that surrounds it. When we see an issue in the world, it really is just a split in the mind. This belief can result in significant problems such as conflict, climate change, and hunger, all of which can be traced back to the division within the mind. “Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved,” (W-79) and “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.” W-80 By examining the projected world, we often fail to identify the core problem because it manifests in many forms. You may resolve a few problems today, only to encounter more tomorrow. Therefore, the key lies in our perspective, which stems from our interpretation.

Relax, Step Back, and Unwind from the World

Relax, Step Back, and Unwind from the World

Relax, Step Back, and Unwind from the World – David Hoffmeister shares about the importance of placing the future in God’s hands, a concept that requires enormous trust. This trust is crucial as we have been conditioned to learn the past and plan the future. Trust is the foundation of a teacher of God and allows us to relax and feel divine ease. During this profound talk, David also gives an overview of the very first Strawberry Fields Festival in 2009. Jesus tells us to go from nightmares to waking with a transition between happy dreams and gentle waking. This process helps us feel softer and gentler, making the struggle and challenge easier. Enjoy this deep discussion with the participants that goes deep and yet fun.

Opening to Deeper Prayer

Opening to Deeper Prayer

Opening to Deeper Prayer – David Hoffmeister begins this 4-day Japan retreat by exploring the concept of undoing the self-concept—a conditioned expectation that obstructs our understanding of the world. The ego arises from the mind’s pursuit of self-improvement, crafting illusory goals that keep the mind preoccupied and detached from its boundless nature. The ego’s game is endless, as it neither begins nor concludes. The purpose of our practice is to abandon the pursuit of temporal goals and relinquish the false identity—the mask of the ego. In doing so, we experience the mind’s all-encompassing nature, recognizing that the world, society, and everything once perceived as external are within the mind. As the mind reaches a state of rest, the external world reflects this peace, becoming more harmonious.

A Path of Gentle Letting Go

A Path of Gentle Letting Go

A Path of Gentle Letting Go – In this session, David Hoffmeister speaks about Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, focusing on self-actualization as the top goal. This concept is based on the Greek belief that ‘know thyself’ is the ultimate goal of human development. The ego attempts to deny this through hypnotism, mesmerism and imagination, covering the truth with unreal images. Atonement, the correction, is the awareness that the separation never happened.

Teaching the Holy Instant

Teaching the Holy Instant

Teaching the Holy Instant – At the beginning of this talk, David Hoffmeister discusses the concept of choice and the duality of life. We seem to live in a world of duality, where one of the primary goals is to find a life partner. We can see even that is dualistic because even a successful life match involves two, while reality involves only one.
