Do Only That!
Gold Nugget:
“So we talk a lot about letting go of the self-concept, and it is pretty late in the Course: ‘Self-Concept versus Self.’ T-31.V Basically who you seem to be or believe you were in the world, a person, a man, a woman, family ties, work skills and abilities, etc., the whole package, that is part of a make-believe self-concept that was made to take the place of your Christ reality. It is like it is superimposed on top of perfection, this make-believe identity, and it always comes with guilt. It is never good enough. If you are a mom, you are never good enough. If you’re a dad, you are never good enough. If you are a worker, you are never good enough, and your manager is telling you, ‘improve your quota,’ ‘do better,’ ‘work more,’ or whatever. Even with A Course in Miracles, you can practice it for many, many years, and the ego will try to run a number on you with that. You didn’t do the lesson good enough. You didn’t apply yourself enough. Oh you are going through the Workbook now for the fourth time. You are a slow learner. The ego is going to run a running commentary. It is even going to make a self-concept out of studying A Course in Miracles, because it is quite clever, and it does not care what it does as long as you remain guilty, because that is how it seems to stay in awareness.
But we are actually into this, ‘Do only that.’ It makes it very, very clear and simple because as you go through the day, and you live that presence, you have eliminated all kinds of pseudo options that really are not options at all. The Course teaches us, ‘It is quite possible to listen to God’s Voice all through the day without interrupting your regular activities in any way.’ W-49.1:1 Well hallelujah! That means I do not have to go and live in a cave. That means I do not have to go and live in the forest. It is great if there are mystics and saints who lived like that and if it helped them reach enlightenment, like Siddhattha, Jesus 40 days in the wilderness. That is wonderful! But it is possible to hear the Voice for God all through the day without interrupting your regular activities. But the deeper you go into ‘Do only that,’ you will become less and less identified with the body, less and less identified with the personality, less and less identified with the story. It says, This is the way I was, and these are my future ambitions. Spirit is saying, Right now. Come to me now. You are perfect right now. Rest in me. Abide in me. Walk with me. Live with me.
That presence is so strong, and that symbolically is what the community is about even though I say the community is just a state of mind. You do not have boundaries, who is in and who is not in the community. The community is in the mind. We are all the same one, but what it means to live in that is to lay aside those obstacles, lay aside those false identifications and learn to trust in divine providence. It is not a person earning money that allows us to have sustenance. Our supply does not come from jobs. Our supply does not come from the government and pensions and all those things in the world. The ego tells us we are sustained by all these things in the world. We are sustained by the Love of God! And when we get into ‘Do only that,’ we start to feel that, like, Whoa this is amazing! This is joyful. This is easy to be as I am created. And then the fruits of the Spirit come through. Wow, we have so many fruits that have been waiting for us to say ‘yes’ to the Spirit. The fruits are ready to just come gushing through like Niagara Falls, but we have been building dams in there to try to hold the light, the gushing, back, and when you let go into that experience, and all of a sudden, all these skills and abilities that were made by the ego, suddenly they come into alignment with the Spirit just to make me an instrument for your peace, just to extend joy, love, and happiness, and then everything else shows up without effort.”

I Taught the World to Teach Me
I Taught the World to Teach Me – In this session, David Hoffmeister emphasizes the importance of loyalty to the Spirit, the inner teacher, over personal desires and external opinions. This loyalty stems from truth and a deep connection with the Holy Spirit, not the ego’s demands. David shares parables of taking full responsibility for our state of mind by recognizing that we taught the world to teach us. By keeping this empowering thought in mind, it’s possible to remember that we don’t need to wait for externals to choose to be happy.

Coming Together with the Purpose of Healing
Coming Together with the Purpose of Healing – David Hoffmeister explores the perceptual problem, which pertains to the belief that the subject and the object are different, that the observer is different from the observed, and that the personality-self is different from the world that surrounds it. When we see an issue in the world, it really is just a split in the mind. This belief can result in significant problems such as conflict, climate change, and hunger, all of which can be traced back to the division within the mind. “Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved,” (W-79) and “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.” W-80 By examining the projected world, we often fail to identify the core problem because it manifests in many forms. You may resolve a few problems today, only to encounter more tomorrow. Therefore, the key lies in our perspective, which stems from our interpretation.

Relax, Step Back, and Unwind from the World
Relax, Step Back, and Unwind from the World – David Hoffmeister shares about the importance of placing the future in God’s hands, a concept that requires enormous trust. This trust is crucial as we have been conditioned to learn the past and plan the future. Trust is the foundation of a teacher of God and allows us to relax and feel divine ease. During this profound talk, David also gives an overview of the very first Strawberry Fields Festival in 2009. Jesus tells us to go from nightmares to waking with a transition between happy dreams and gentle waking. This process helps us feel softer and gentler, making the struggle and challenge easier. Enjoy this deep discussion with the participants that goes deep and yet fun.

Opening to Deeper Prayer
Opening to Deeper Prayer – David Hoffmeister begins this 4-day Japan retreat by exploring the concept of undoing the self-concept—a conditioned expectation that obstructs our understanding of the world. The ego arises from the mind’s pursuit of self-improvement, crafting illusory goals that keep the mind preoccupied and detached from its boundless nature. The ego’s game is endless, as it neither begins nor concludes. The purpose of our practice is to abandon the pursuit of temporal goals and relinquish the false identity—the mask of the ego. In doing so, we experience the mind’s all-encompassing nature, recognizing that the world, society, and everything once perceived as external are within the mind. As the mind reaches a state of rest, the external world reflects this peace, becoming more harmonious.

A Path of Gentle Letting Go
A Path of Gentle Letting Go – In this session, David Hoffmeister speaks about Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, focusing on self-actualization as the top goal. This concept is based on the Greek belief that ‘know thyself’ is the ultimate goal of human development. The ego attempts to deny this through hypnotism, mesmerism and imagination, covering the truth with unreal images. Atonement, the correction, is the awareness that the separation never happened.

Teaching the Holy Instant
Teaching the Holy Instant – At the beginning of this talk, David Hoffmeister discusses the concept of choice and the duality of life. We seem to live in a world of duality, where one of the primary goals is to find a life partner. We can see even that is dualistic because even a successful life match involves two, while reality involves only one.
